Overview

Be a volunteer for the Women Empowerment Program and contribute to helping women in underprivileged communities in Tanzania. Work with NGOs to improve the lives of women by providing vocational training and opportunities to achieve financial independence.

This program is ideal for students or anyone passionate about uplifting women and making a real impact. Support single teen mothers, HIV/AIDS-affected women, vulnerable girls, and survivors of gender-based violence or trafficking.

Program Details

Volunteer roles and responsibilities:

  • Assist in vocational training workshops (tailoring, cooking, beading, hairdressing)
  • Support local NGOs in organising women empowerment sessions
  • Help conduct awareness campaigns on health, hygiene, and gender equality
  • Encourage confidence building and leadership in young women
  • Support women in small businesses and entrepreneurship skills
  • Assist in teaching computer literacy, English, and basic finance

Accommodation

Volunteers stay in a shared volunteer house in Arusha with breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

Orientation

Orientation on the first Monday includes local tour, safety, culture, and placement details. Tuesday–Friday: volunteer work at the placement (typically 09:00–13:00).

Schedule

Saturday/Sunday: Arrival at Arusha.

Monday: Orientation and local tour.

Tuesday–Friday: Volunteer work (e.g. 09:00–13:00). Breakfast from 06:30; lunch from 12:30; dinner from 18:30.

Weekends: Free to explore or join safaris and excursions.

Weekends are free to explore Arusha, safaris, or cultural activities.

Location

All projects are based in and around Arusha, Tanzania—the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro and many national parks. Arusha is a vibrant city where you will experience Tanzanian culture while contributing to meaningful community and conservation work.

Arrival & Airport

Volunteers arrive on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha.

Start Dates

Programs start on the first and third Monday of each month, year-round. You can choose a duration from 1 week up to 16 weeks depending on the project.

Requirements

  • Volunteers must be 17+ years old
  • Open-minded, flexible, and enthusiastic
  • Passionate about women empowerment and social development
  • Clean criminal background check
  • Parental consent required for under 18
  • Skills in teaching, business, health, tailoring, cooking, or IT are an advantage
