Program Details

Volunteers work in local kindergartens, schools, and community centres where children receive early education, care, and emotional support. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with basic English lessons
  • Organising games and sports
  • Leading arts and crafts activities
  • Helping prepare and serve meals
  • Providing mentoring and emotional support
  • Assisting with teaching and organising playtime

Accommodation

Volunteers stay in a shared volunteer house or homestay in Arusha. Accommodation includes meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), WiFi where available, and a safe environment. You will share rooms with other volunteers and have access to common areas.

Orientation

Orientation takes place on the first Monday and includes an introduction to Arusha, safety briefing, cultural guidelines, and placement details. You will be escorted to your project by local staff on your first day.

Schedule

Saturday/Sunday: Arrival at Arusha.

Monday: Orientation by local coordinator (safety, culture, placements).

Tuesday–Friday: Volunteer work at the placement (typically 08:30–12:30, with option to stay longer).

Meals: Breakfast from 06:30; lunch from 12:30; dinner from 18:30.

Weekends

Weekends are free to explore Arusha, visit local markets, or join optional safaris to Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, or Kilimanjaro hiking.

Location

All projects are based in and around Arusha, Tanzania—the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro and many national parks. Arusha is a vibrant city where you will experience Tanzanian culture while contributing to meaningful community and conservation work.

Arrival & Airport

Volunteers arrive on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha.

Start Dates

Programs start on the first and third Monday of each month, year-round. You can choose a duration from 1 week up to 16 weeks depending on the project.

Fees and Dates

Program fees vary by duration; see the fee table above. A one-time $290 registration fee and 5% international banking fee apply. Fees include accommodation, meals, airport pick-up, orientation, and in-country support.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 16 years (parental consent required for under 18)
  • Enthusiastic and passionate about children’s growth
  • Teaching experience and Swahili are a plus but not required
  • Open-minded, flexible, and proactive
  • Clean criminal background check (for 18+)

  • Comfortable, modest clothing for placement

  • Personal toiletries and any required medications
  • Teaching materials or small games (optional)
