Program Details

What you’ll do:

  • Observe and assist in clinics and hospitals
  • Support patient care and basic procedures under supervision
  • Learn from local doctors and nurses
  • Help with health education and outreach
  • Gain exposure to tropical and community health issues

Arrival and orientation: volunteers arrive on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. Orientation includes hospital introduction and local health briefing. On your first day you will be escorted to your assigned medical centre and introduced to local staff and patients.

Accommodation

Volunteers stay in a shared volunteer house in Arusha with all meals included and 24/7 support.

Orientation

Orientation starts on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month and includes hospital introduction and local health briefing. You will be escorted to your assigned medical centre on your first day.

Schedule

Typical week: Monday orientation; Tuesday–Friday at placement (hours as agreed with the facility). Meals and evenings at the volunteer house; weekends free.

Weekends

Weekends are free for exploration, safaris, or rest.

Location

All projects are based in and around Arusha, Tanzania—the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro and many national parks. Arusha is a vibrant city where you will experience Tanzanian culture while contributing to meaningful community and conservation work.

Arrival & Airport

Volunteers arrive on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha.

Start Dates

Programs start on the first and third Monday of each month, year-round. You can choose a duration from 1 week up to 16 weeks depending on the project.

Program fees vary by duration; see the fee table above. Includes one-time $290 registration fee and 5% international banking fee.

Requirements

  • Minimum age 18 (or 16+ with parental consent where applicable)
  • Medical, nursing, or pre-med background preferred but not always required
  • Open-minded and respectful of local practices
  • Clean criminal background check

What to Bring

  • Scrubs or appropriate clinical attire if you have them
  • Stethoscope and basic medical supplies (optional)
  • Personal toiletries, sun protection, reusable water bottle

Safety

We work with vetted healthcare facilities. You will receive a safety and health briefing on arrival. 24/7 in-country support is available.
