Overview

Interested in horticulture and agroforestry? Our Sustainable Agriculture project in Tanzania is a great way to learn about, experience, and help improve techniques adopted by local small-scale farmers in communities in Arusha.

If you like to live amidst nature and get your hands dirty, this is a perfect volunteering opportunity. Sustainable Agriculture empowers smallholders with skills and resources to increase crop yields and adopt sustainable practices, supporting food security and environmental conservation.

Program Details

You can expect to support with:

Tasks are chosen according to your interests or as instructed by local staff and farmers. You will work with communities to conserve the environment and support different agricultural activities through indigenous and sustainable methods.

Accommodation

Volunteers stay in a shared volunteer house or homestay in Arusha with meals included. Some placements may be in rural areas near Arusha.

Orientation

Orientation on the first Monday covers safety, culture, and placement introduction. You will be taken to your project site and introduced to local farmers and staff.

Schedule

Typical week: Monday orientation; Tuesday–Friday in the field (5–7 hours/day). Meals at accommodation; weekends free.

Weekends

Weekends are free to explore Arusha, national parks, or cultural sites.

Location

All projects are based in and around Arusha, Tanzania—the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro and many national parks. Arusha is a vibrant city where you will experience Tanzanian culture while contributing to meaningful community and conservation work.

Arrival & Airport

Volunteers arrive on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha.

Start Dates

Programs start on the first and third Monday of each month, year-round. You can choose a duration from 1 week up to 16 weeks depending on the project.
