Overview
Are you an animal lover looking for an ethical animal welfare volunteering program abroad? We offer affordable and meaningful Animal Welfare programs where you’ll work closely with animals and professional veterinarians, contributing to their wellbeing.
As an Animal Welfare volunteer, you’ll be placed with a local veterinarian, treating animals such as donkeys, dogs, cats, chickens, and cows. You will work at a small clinic, a shelter, and travel with the vet to farms and villages, gaining exposure to animal diseases and treatments.

Program Details
What you’ll do:
- Assist the local vet with treatments and procedures
- Help with vaccinations, neutering, and wound care
- Support feeding, walking, and care at the shelter
- Travel to farms and villages with the vet (where applicable)
- Prepare animals for adoption and support shelter operations
US $100 is donated to the local vet for logistics and supervision. You will gain hands-on experience and learn about animal welfare in Tanzania.

Accommodation
Volunteers stay in a shared volunteer house or homestay in Arusha with meals included.
Orientation
Orientation on the first Monday includes safety, culture, and introduction to the vet and shelter. You will be escorted to your placement on your first day.
Schedule
Monday: orientation. Tuesday–Friday: work at clinic/shelter or with the vet in the field (3–5 hours). Weekends free.
Weekends
Weekends are free to explore Arusha or join wildlife safaris.
Location
All projects are based in and around Arusha, Tanzania—the gateway to Mount Kilimanjaro and many national parks. Arusha is a vibrant city where you will experience Tanzanian culture while contributing to meaningful community and conservation work.
Arrival & Airport
Volunteers arrive on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month. You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport and transferred to your accommodation in Arusha.
Start Dates
Programs start on the first and third Monday of each month, year-round. You can choose a duration from 1 week up to 16 weeks depending on the project.

Requirements
- Minimum age 16 (parental consent for 16–17)
- 18+ must provide a clean criminal background check
- Basic English required
- Passion for animal welfare
